Rear A/C units have become very popular in vans, minivans,
suv's and suburbans. The addition of the rear evaporator creates a unique
A/C repair problem. That is, the lines for the refrigerant typically run
under the vehicle and are exposed to all the harsh elements all the time.
They quickly rust or corrode and become a major source for refrigerant (freon)
leaks in the A/C system. |

| How
do the line kits work? |
| Here's
a look under a typical minivan where the rear A/C lines are completely exposed
to all the elements. Because they are exposed, the rear A/C lines have become
a major source of refrigerant leaks in A/C systems that have rear evaporators.
Until now, the only repair was to replace the entire line from the dealer.

How
do the A/C Line Repair kits work?
Are they easy to install? |
| Yes!
The rear A/C line repair
kits are easy to install. In fact, they install in 3 simple steps to
assure tight, leak free A/C line repairs every time.
Step
One:
With
the A/C system discharged, cut the line section that is rusted, damaged or
corroded. Always use a tube cutter
so that the line ends will be free of rough edges and burrs.
Step
Two:
Install
the nut and ferrule (with the narrow end towards the nut as shown in the
illustration below). DO NOT INSTALL THE O-RING at this time. Push the line
into the tube union until it bottoms out. Tighten the nut to 10-12 ft.lbs.
of toque. Then loosen the nut and remove the tube. The ferrule should now
be compressed onto the tube. It's important to do this step first. So many
times the service technician installs the nut, ferrule and o-ring all at
once and tightens the fitting. That changes the location of the ferrule and
will cause the union to leak.
Step
Three:
Now
install the o-ring (against the ferrule), insert the tube into the union
bottoming out the tube, and tighten the nut. You've just completed a professional
leak free tube union. Now repeat Steps 1 thru 3 for the opposite side! |
