Confused about
the different sizes of A/C hose? :
Here's an illustration
that will provide all the details you need. It shows all four sizes of A/C
hose used on your vehicle and includes both the inside and outside diameters
on each size.

A/C Hose
Sizes:
Typically,
A/C hose is referred to by what is known as the 'nominal' size. Sizes like
#6, #8, #10 or #12. How do you know what size A/C hose you really need?
That's
easy! Use this guide to understand the what the four different sizes of A/C
hose are and what the actual dimensions really are. The illustration provided
details on standard barrier A/C hose. |
|
 |
You
can complete these cuts using a hack saw or, if you have, a cutting tool.
Use caution not to damage the tube under the hose or the 'beads' that hold
the ferrule into position. When the cuts are complete, simply remove the
old hose ferrule and hose section. |
|
|
|
|
Note about the
A/C hose sizes listed in the chart:
The
illustration above provides A/C hose I.D. and O.D. of standard barrier
refrigerant hoses. In some applications, the original manufacturer may use
'Reduced Diameter' barrier hose. Reduced Diameter hose is the same INSIDE
DIAMETER as standard barrier hose, but the OUTSIDE DIAMETER is reduced. It
allows for tighter bends under the hood. However reduced diameter A/C hose
can be replaced with standard barrier hose without any effect on fit or
performance of the A/C system.

Before
you start, be sure that you have reviewed all the information and that you

On
today's auto A/C systems, you can no longer use barb style fittings. You
will have to use 'bead lock' fittings (just like the original hose).
Bead lock fittings include the crimp ferrule (or shell) already attached
to the fitting. You will also require an
A/C hose crimper to
crimp the fitting.
