Repairing
or replacing auto A/C hoses? Easily replace any hose section without replacing
the complete hose assembly! :
One of the most common
areas for auto A/C systems to leak is at hoses. There are three different
hose sections on each auto A/C system, and they usually include a rubber
hose section that is crimped onto a fitting or tube end. It is very common
to develop leaks at the hose crimp. Now you don't have to replace the entire
hose assembly to repair a leak.
|
Repair any section
of an auto A/C hose is easy:
Auto
A/C hose assemblies can be very costly to replace. They usually include lon
sections of tube that are routed to fit around other obstacles under the
hood. The problem is that in most cases, it's just the hose that is leaking...
and there is no reason to have to replace the entire hose assembly.
One
of the most common areas for auto A/C systems to leak is at the rubber
hose section, and usually right at the crimp. Why? Because crimping the hose
can cause the internal hose braid to be crushed or broken to the point where
it will not withstand the pressures for long periods of time. So why not
just replace the section of hose that's leaking?
Using
the unique Crimpmate
3 step A/C hose repair kit, you can easily replace just the leaking
section of hose without having to replace the entire hose or line assembly.
This information will provide you all the details of how to complete the
repair and make a professional OE style hose in a few minutes. All without
having to replace the entire hose assembly.
Note
that in order to complete the A/C hose repairs, you will have to know the
size of A/C hose required (or the fitting size). You can easily determine
the right size of A/C hose by measing the fitting or tube section as close
to the A/C hose as possible. We've also provided the complete details on
how to measure the A/C fitting and understand
the 'nominal' sizes (like #6, #8, #10 and #12 Hose) by reviewing exact sizes
of the .

The 3 Step Hose
Repair System:
This
unique A/C Hose repair process allows you to repair any auto A/C hose assembly
by just replacing the section of hose that's leaking. In short, you cut the
existing hose crimp off, install a replacement ferrule and hose and then
crimp it! It's just that easy.
The
information below provides all the details of the three steps with illustrations
to explain and help you do the job correctly.
|
Step 1 - Remove
the original hose crimp:
With
your system charge recovered and the hose assembly off the vehicle,
start by cutting the original hose ferrule (or crimp). In most cases, you
will have to make at least 2 cuts in order to remove the original ferrule.
|
 |
You
can complete these cuts using a hack saw or, if you have, a cutting tool.
Use caution not to damage the tube under the hose or the 'beads' that hold
the ferrule into position. When the cuts are complete, simply remove the
old hose ferrule and hose section. |
|
|
|
|
Step 2 - Install
replacement ferrule and retainer clip:
With
the old ferrule and hose removed, determine the proper size retainer clip
needed to fit between the beads that used to hold the ferrule. Select the
proper clip from the 9 different assorted clips included in the hose repair
kit.
|
 |
Once
you've selected the proper retainer clip, be sure to install the replacement
ferrule first! Notice that the replacement ferrule has a larger hole than
the original one. That allows it to slide over the beads (that usually hold
the ferrule). With the retainer clip installed, the hose ferrule is held
in position the same way the original one was held by the two beads. |
|
|
|
|
Step 3 - Install
hose and crimp:
With
the replacement hose ferrule and retainer clip in place, you're ready to
install the new hose section. Simply slip the new hose onto the fitting (tube)
section, and slide the new ferrule over the hose. You're ready to crimp!
|
 |
Be
sure the tube section is clean and free of any roughness (that may occur
when cutting the original ferrule). With barrier hose, the hose should just
slide over the original fitting. Be sure to push the hose all the way up
the fitting so that it contacts the beads where the retainer clip is positioned.
|
|
|
|
|
You're done!
:
With
the hose installed and the new ferrule over top of the new hose, you're ready
finished and ready to crimp. Once crimped, the repaired A/C hose will have
the identical fit, look and function as the original hose. For leak free
crimping, consider the Crimpmate 4-in-1 design
A/C hose crimper that's
economical and easy to use.
|
 |
Once
crimped, the repaired A/C Hose with replacement ferrule looks just like the
original A/C hose. When crimping, be sure that you maintain the position
of the hose so that is installed 'all the way' up to the beads on the tube.
The repaired hose should be leak free and ready for years of trouble free
service. |

An Actual Step
3 A/C Hose Repair:
Here's
a series of photos of an actual A/C hose repair completed with the Crimpmate
3 Step hose repair system. You will be able to see just how easy it
is to repair any A/C hose and get professional O.E. style results all the

 |
Cut
the original hose crimp to remove it from the hose. It helps to secure the
tube section in a bench vice. In this photo, you can see that we made two
cuts, being careful not to cut through the hose or damage the beads that
hold the original hose ferrule. |
|
|
|
|
 |
The
original A/C hose is removed and the original ferrule can be pulled from
the beads that held it in place on the fitting. Be sure not to damage the
original tube section when cutting. That could upset the sealing surfaces
and create a leak at your new hose crimp. |
|
|
|
|
 |
You
can see that we have installed the new ferrule first, and then positioned
the proper retainer clip into the groove (between the two bead) that originally
held the ferrule. We're ready to install the hose! |
|
|
|
|
 |
With
the hose installed and pushed right up to the beads (where the retainer clip
was installed) we simply slide the new ferrule on top of the hose. We're
ready to complete the job by simply crimping the new ferrule and hose connection.
That will give us a leak free repair with the same look and feel as the O.E.
hose. All without having th replace the entire hose assembly. |
